Challenge
The owners of this home wanted their existing roof replaced with one of ours. The existing roof wasn't in too bad of a condition, but you could see some shingles were loose and weathered down. We started prepping the job by laying tarps all around the perimeter of the house to be able to catch all the debris and nails that may fall off. We then began stripping the old shingles down to the sheathing. We noticed their existing plywood sheathing was in good shape with no signs of moisture issues, so we began to lay down our style of roof.
Solution
- First, we adhered some deck tape across all the seams in the sheathing, which is just an extra, extra, extra step in waterproofing the roof. The tape also acts as a blueprint for where we plan to place the Velora One synthetic underlayment.
- We then applied KRS Sealoron Ice/Water Shield underlayment by adhering the membrane on the eaves and valleys up to 6 feet from the bottom of the roof. It's important to waterproof these areas especially, as they are the most likely to receive water in the event of heavy rain.
- We then applied KRS Velora One synthetic underlayment to everywhere else on the roof, which is adhered using plastic cap nails.
- We then installed Brownstone colored IKO Dynasty Shingles everywhere including the hips and ridges of the roof. By using galvanized nails to adhere the shingles, the nails can not rust away.
- We then add little details like the apron flashing, perma boots, aluminum drip edges, and aluminum rake edges.
The result is a beautiful, strong, long-lasting roof!
